Real Women have Curves!

This is a bit of a moany blog post so I apologise, but I hope (and also am pretty sure) that I am not alone in having this gripe.....
far too many clothes stores don't proportion their clothes well enough for women with curves!

Now I appreciate that we all have different body shapes, but I am fed up with badly proportioned clothes. We aren't all straight up and down, many women have hips and boobs, so why can't our outfits be made for this!
I'm sick and tired of having to buy a dress size up in coat for them to fit my shoulders/hips to have it huge on the waist.
Another thing I am finding more and more annoying is the chest in dresses/shirts not being big enough. I wouldn't say I have a huge chest, probably just an average bra size but I am increasingly finding that many things I try are just gaping under the armpits. Sure I can get a dress size up to get them to fit, but then what about the baggyness everywhere else?

It was this dress that spurred me into writing this blog post. I love the colour, the material feels nice, skirt is of a good length and fullness but just look at the gaping arm holes? Seriously not a good look?

Anybody else with me on this? Or is it just me?

  1. Omigosh it's like you have looked into my mind and repeated what I have ALWAYS said haha! I am so sick of clothes not fitting my curves either. I want to buy a cute short jumpsuit for summer but they are always tight around the bum/thighs/boobs and loose around the waist grrrr xo

  2. No you're most definitely not the only one! I don't think it matters what dress size you are either. I have finally found a pair of jeans that fit ie not gaping hideously at the waist just so hips and thighs fit! Dresses can be a pain especially as I'm not really petite at 5'3/5'4" ish size 8ish but 'regular' sizes are often too long / baggy etc.... grrr can't win

  3. I get problems like this all the time. Shirt dresses are a no go or anything that isn't stretchy at the top. I always find that sleeves are too tight on me too. sigh.

  4. Glad to hear you both agree! It is frustrating.
Thethreelivesof I feel your pain with the jeans, I avoid jeans due to that problem. Luckily I've found 2 pairs of jeans from Peacocks that have just enough stretch in the denim they fit over my thighs without being ridiculously huge on the waist.xx

  5. Oh god, I find that far too often with the sleeves too. I know I don't have the skinniest of arms but they're not that huge in proportion to the rest of my body.xx

  6. No you are not laone I too feel like this.

I am large chested but smaller on the bottom half but I find a 10-12 can fit me on the bottom but I need a 14 sometimes 16 on the top just to cram my boobs in! I think they just think all women come one size! You are either slim with no chest or curvier with no chest or larger with a large chest! arrgh its so annoying xx
Love that dress BTW looks lovely I too have get gapy armpit bits on some dresses lol xx

  8. I know exactly how you feel, it can be such a pain buying clothes that fit decently. I have loads of dresses that I can only wear with a cardigan over the top to cover the bits that don't fit haha.
Its such a shame about that dress.

  9. Glad I'm not alone in all this! Clothes stores seriously need to sort it out!
Super gutted about the dress, I thought about a cardigan/top underneath but it's frustrating that you should have to do that for it to fit!

  11. totally with you on this one... I get so frustrated and sometimes feel like I am the one that needs to diet or somehow change my figure! Its so frustrating, I am pear shaped so have hips and a bum - jeans are the worst! xx

  12. I have a huge problem with jeans. I have pretty big hips and thighs but a small waist and I can never get jeans that fit over my hips that aren't huge on the waist!
I also just wanted to say thank you for your comment on my blog. I really, really hate my legs so it really means a lot to have someone compliment them!

  15. Oh my goodness, you are definitly not alone here! I can never get tops to fit over my bust. The worst is shirts - I can never button them all of the way up because they simply will not stretch across my boobs. It's not as though I can buy bigger sizes because then they are bigger everywhere else. It's a real pain.

It's a shame, that dress is so pretty but the only way you can wear it is with a cardigan over the top. Frustrating!!

  16. It is true thats why I tend to stick to the same places which I know fit me perfectly. My friend swears by Bravissimo clothing for curvy girls as they make them not just in dress size but curve size too!

  17. Totally! But that's what mainstream/mass made is all about. I have it worse cuz, I'm petite (4'11'') and I've got curves so clothes are scarce to find.
